Why a big Gap b/w FCP and Start Render?

When something is painted even with opacity:0, FCP occurs and when that opacity is increased to make the content visible, then Start Render occurs. Practically, It is almost always an anti-flicker snippet by some Client Side A/B Testing tool behind it.
